We have been exhibiting Afghan Hounds Since 1969 & Ibizan Hounds since 1985.

To pronounce Ibizan correctly is like this [ ibEEthan]. It is acknowledged that the Ibizan Hound comes from the island of Ibiza situated off the coast of Spain in the Western Mediterranean Sea.

But like many old breeds from the area they are shrouded in mystery.
Where are their origins ?
Who Knows ?
The dog depicted in the ancient carvings of the Egyptians resembles the Ibizan Hound, more than the Pharaoh Hound on markings alone.
The pied coats are often shown, a feature the Pharaoh Hound does not have. Also the Pharaoh Hound lacks the height.
In fact the only resemblance the Pharaoh Hound has to ancient Egyptian carvings are it’s ears. To compare an Ibizan hound with a Pharaoh Hound is a non starter.
They are completely different in not only size but in confirmation too.

But like all sight hounds that originated from the region, the Ibizan Hound is very fast at foot, great speeds can be achieved by these hounds.
Not as fast as a Greyhound over a short distance, but having the stamina to run and hunt all day at a good pace.
Not as agile as an Afghan Hound, who as the ability to turn within itself at speed over rocky terrain.
But non the less a great hunter , who is able to jump from standstill to great heights 1.8 mts [6ft] plus with ease.
A forager of renown having the ability to flush out prey from very dense undergrowth, mainly small game, rabbits etc.

After observing the Ibizan Hound over many years I believe that they have the genes to enable them to hunt, like Afghan hounds, Greyhounds, Saluki’s, & Sloughis, very efficiently.
Whatever - The Ibizan Hound, like the Afghan Hound are wonderful hounds to own, great family members, guards all within its domain & very loyal.
